The first edition of Enz’Horgues welcomed international artists who came to graffiti the walls of the old village school.
Already requested on numerous occasions by the municipality to create hyperrealistic works on monuments in Horgues, the Tarbes artist Enzo Yurrebaso was asked by its mayor Jean-Michel Ségnéré to help him set up a street art festival in the heart of of the municipality.
After careful consideration, the event focused on the old village school, with the aim of covering its walls with frescoes. Before the visiting graffiti artists arrived on site, municipal employees had repainted them blue.
For this first edition which took place on September 14 and 15, in addition to inviting promising young talents from the Upper Pyrenees, Enzo also asked internationally renowned American street artists to participate in the event. Everyone was given carte blanche to enhance the blue wall surfaces of the building with enormous pieces.
In the end, the visuals and messages proposed by each person came together into a unique work of art. “Battles” also allowed participants to challenge each other.
During a twenty-minute face-to-face meeting, they had to use only black to completely fill a canvas measuring three by two meters. But beyond attending the performances, young and old children alike were able to take a can of paint in hand in order to learn about the practice before giving free rein to their imagination within the courtyard of the old school establishment. Given the popular success, the festival will be repeated next year, at the same location, with a new color theme.
