21/11/24 – Acquisition – Chicago, The Art Institute – The Chicago Museum expands its Italian collection with a first work by Jacopino del Conte, a monumental Virgin and Child with Saint John the Baptist and Saint Elizabeth (ill. 1). Having remained in private Italian hands for a long time, the panel had recently joined a private London collection from which it was acquired by the American museum through the Lullo Pampoulide gallery which presented it at TEFAF 2023. It took its place within the European galleries where he adds to the Florentine Mannerist corpus already presented, which notably includes Andrea del Sarto, whose student Jacopino was, Jacopo Pontormo and Agnolo Bronzino.
