A completely revised 1960s construction

You have to wander between the dunes to discover a residence of rare beauty, where tranquility is required. “To raze this house from the 1960s without much interest would have resulted in a ban on rebuilding. We therefore transformed the existing so that it fits better between dunes and ocean” explains architect Pierre Audat. With the interior designer Dom Palatchi, they integrated it into its environment with the most perfect harmony possible, the building being as if planted in the sand, embracing the sea spray. Dom Palatchi explains how they managed to create a feeling of space without breaking up the volumes: “we have increased the number of rooms with their bathrooms, without disrupting the volumes, by offering, for example, a dormitory. » On the ground floor, the living room becomes the scene of winter evenings with its XXL concrete fireplace around which the staircase winds – a desire of the client. The property has an American kitchen opening onto the terrace, a master suite on one level, four bedrooms upstairs, three shower rooms and a bathroom.

The ocean as your only neighbor

Depending on the rooms, the decor echoes the surrounding nature, the wood hugs the walls, the bay windows open directly onto the beach while the red claustras, on the other side, evoke the Basque tradition. The architect’s house extends between land and sea over 210 square meters with the impression of being alone in the world facing the elements. A true Mecca for surfing enthusiasts, of which it is the European capital, Hossegor is recognizable by its Basque-Landes style villas between loggias facing the sun, half-timbered facade and precious details such as bas-reliefs and stained glass windows. Sometimes more minimal, they all share this body to body with the ocean and the beach – Hossegor has seven kilometers of ocean beaches.
