Guest in TPMP even in summer this Wednesday, June 19, Nelson Monfort remembered the worst interview of his career. That day, the sports journalist was surprised by the attitude of a famous tennis player.

After 37 years of good and loyal service, Nelson Monfort will leave the France Télévisions channels at the end of the summer. Before a final lap with the Paris Olympic Games, which will begin on Friday July 26, the sports journalist said goodbye to Roland-Garros on June 9. “For my last Roland-Garros tournament, in these circumstances, I was really served, it was a wonderful match”, he confided with emotion, after the final between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. Since then, Nelson Monfort has made numerous television appearances in order to take stock of his career. And it’s on the set of TPMP even in summer that he chose to visit this Wednesday, June 19.

Nelson Monfort recounts his worst interview with a tennis champion

Questioned by Pascale from La Tour du Pin, Nelson Monfort returned to his worst interview. “With certain tennis women, especially Russian tennis women, it was not always so easy. I will always remember an anecdote with the player Maria Sharapovawho was a very great player”he said, before explaining how the former champion tried to promote a watch brand live on television. “I do the interview with her and she tells me: ‘Wait, I need to put on my watch.’ We start the interview and I see that she starts to put her hand in front of her face. I find that there isn’t much spontaneity in that.”lamented the sports journalist, who also did not hesitate to talk about French tennis players.

Nelson Monfort talks about the bad reputation of French tennis players

Never short of anecdotes, Nelson Monfort then revealed that French tennis players had a bad reputation among ball boys. “We often do a survey among ball boys because there is a way of throwing in the towel carelessly or handing it out sympathetically. This survey is always very favorable to Rafael Nadal and I admit that unfortunately it is a little less favorable to French tennis players”he said, before throwing a barb at the level of the French tennis players. “Maybe it’s the fact that the ball boys don’t have enough opportunity to meet them since it usually ends in the first or second round.”
