We have just learned that the cemetery has been tagged. “The imbeciles who have been active elsewhere have come to do stupid things to us,” reacts Dominique Durant, the mayor, who was warned the day before at 2 p.m.

Among the 80 soiled graves, there is that of Paul, 83 years old. Seeing the inscriptions in black capital letters on the stele, he collapsed in tears: “It hurts,” he sobbed. But hey, at least it’s not broken! I don’t even want to feel hatred towards those who did this, it would please them too much. But it’s still ridiculous to act like that. »

80 graves were defiled, as well as the entrance gate to the cemetery.

“Desolation”

Odette, another resident, has just toured the place: “I feel despair and desolation. It hurts my heart. » Another Tourtoiracais is more virulent: “They are scum. The death penalty must be reinstated. » Realizing that he had lost his temper, he corrected himself: “At least, if we catch them, we should make them clean up their mess. It would teach them respect for the dead. »

The question agitates the entire Périgord Vert: who could have done this? The prosecution, which opened an investigation for willful damage, makes a link with the events occurring since December 2023. Initially, ordeals and a bus shelter were covered with “Allah” inscriptions in Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil , Cherveix-Cubas and Coulaures. On March 10, a chapel in Saint-Mesmin was covered with messages like “convert”. On March 11, 58 graffiti were discovered on graves in the Clermont-d’Excideuil cemetery. The tone had become more insulting: there was talk of “gwers” and “kouffars”, very derogatory Arabic terms designating infidels or unbelievers.

In Tourtoirac, it seems that it is still the same writing found on the tombs. This time, the inscriptions have changed somewhat. Of course, it always revolves around messages emanating from the Islamic lexicon. Like “the people of the Book must submit.”

Celebrities and politicians

But mention is also made of public figures: Marine Le Pen, Jordan Bardella, Éric Zemmour, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Pascal Praud, Cyril Hanouna… Each time, their year of birth appears (which suggests that there is had some degree of preparation), followed by a future date. We deduce that this is their date of death, and therefore death threats.

The mayor filed a complaint, and so did some victims. The Périgueux research brigade “is actively continuing its research to identify the perpetrator(s) of the facts”, indicates the prosecution. While waiting for a suspect to be found, solidarity is being organized: the local branch of SOS Calvaires (a national association) plans to come as quickly as possible to clean up the damage.
