British actor Bernard Hill, who was notably seen playing in Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, died this Sunday, May 5 at the age of 79, his agent announced.
Originally from Manchester, the general public knew Bernard Hill best for his role as Titanic captain Edward Smith in the eponymous film by James Cameron released in 1997 and a worldwide success.
The actor died early this Sunday, May 5, his agent Lou told British media.
Career in British television
He also played the king of Rohan Theoden in the trilogy adapted from “The Lord of the Rings”, released in the early 2000s, and played numerous supporting roles, such as in “At the Sources of the Nile”, by Rob Rafelson (1990) or “Found Guilty” (1999), by Clint Eastwood.
Revealed in the early 1980s for his role as an unemployed man in the multi-award winning television series “Boys from the Blackstuff”, Bernard Hill also had a prolific career on British television.
The actor was also a known face and voice on the BBC, having appeared in numerous TV films and narrated several documentaries for the famous British channel.
