A small 33m2 house designed like a fighter plane

This small 33m2 house with curved lines was designed by British architect Peter Markos of Markos Design Workshop. He proposed his concept during a competition organized by Airbnb as part of the Airbnb Fund in 2022. This competition aimed to imagine habitats like no other, with a prize of $100,000 for the winners. The architect said he was inspired by a fighter plane from the Second World War, and more particularly the famous de Havilland Mosquito, to create this wooden monocoque house.

Following his victory, the architect created his own design studio, where he now develops numerous projects. The architecture of this small 33m2 house is striking with its curved lines and its exterior covered in cedar shingles which ages harmoniously in its environment. The interior is made of plywood, and polycarbonate and glass are used for the openings. The translucent pinion is undoubtedly what best recalls the nose of the legendary plane. The layout is simple with a kitchen and a bedroom as well as a bathroom. The small house is not transportable as it is, but can be easily dismantled to be installed elsewhere than on its initial site.
