Jean-Paul Belmondo: “As soon as he could do something stupid…”, the tender memories of his grandson Alessandro

Tuesday April 30, 2024, Alessandro Belmondo was the guest of host Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine in C to Yous alongside his mother Luana Belmondo on the occasion of the release of the documentary Belmondo, Italy’s heritage available on Canal+. Some extracts were broadcast in the program broadcast on France 5.

We discover that Jean-Paul Belmondo used to like to make his grandchildren laugh. For example, he didn’t hesitate to do a few stunts or throw himself fully clothed into the swimming pool. “Whenever he could do something stupid to make us laugh, he did it“, exclaimed Alessandro Belmondo back on set, assuring that it was of course the truth.

Alessandro Belmondo had a lot of laughs with his grandfather

I don’t think I came out of those moments unscathed.“, he added, laughing, even though his grandfather never missed one.”People often asked me what it was like to have a famous grandfather and I replied that he was a grandfather like everyone else. He was perhaps a little more of a daredevil than the others, we’ll say, but he loved making me and my brothers laugh..”

During this same interview, Alessandro Belmondo was questioned about his profession even though he did not choose to follow his grandfather’s passion since he became a restaurateur and is now at the head of his own restaurant Caillebotte in Paris. When he was 22 and in hotel school, he did an internship with Hélène Darroze in London, which changed everything for him.

Hélène Darroze counted a lot in the life of Alessandro Belmondo

At the beginning, I listened to my mom and dad, it’s a job that I always wanted to do. I always loved eating, I always loved cooking. But I didn’t dare to move forward. One day I got up, and mom kindly said to me: ‘I’m sending you to Hélène Darroze and if you flourish there, you are made for this job’“, thus recounted the grandson of Jean-Paul Belmondo to begin with.

My career is very much influenced by women, my Italian grandmother taught me some cooking and especially anti-waste and I had my mother too, and Hélène Darroze. And my wife too today of course who today also shares my life with my son. These are the four women who marked my life at key moments“, he added, very moved.
