The parent company of these two social networks, Meta, assures that it does not subscribe users to accounts against their will, and that this phenomenon is explained rather by the transfer of the official accounts of the president and vice-president of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to Donald Trump and JD Vance on Monday.
Both on Facebook and Instagram and on X, the president and vice-president of the United States have official accounts separate from their personal accounts. These accounts, like @POTUS (New window) for the president and @VP (New window) for the vice president, are managed by the White House. When a new administration takes power in the United States, official accounts automatically change ownership. This transfer also includes all their subscribers.
