UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that the United Nations (UN) stands ready to provide necessary assistance in response to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles, California.
In a written statement, Guterres said he was deeply touched by the devastation caused by the fires. He expressed his shock and sadness, while offering his condolences to the families of the victims.
The Secretary-General also praised the dedication of the relief teams, who are working in extremely difficult conditions, saying: “The UN stands ready to provide support. »
Los Angeles authorities said the fire, which broke out Tuesday morning in the coastal neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, spread quickly, killing five people so far.
In addition, authorities from the Los Angeles Fire Department described this fire as one of the most devastating the city has seen, noting that it has already destroyed around 2,000 homes.
Authorities ordered the evacuation of around 100,000 people in affected areas. The fire also spread to Hollywood, causing the loss of many properties, including those of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and Cary Elwes.
Due to this situation, all schools in the region are currently closed.
