Jake Chansley was one of the first 30 rioters who entered the Capitol on January 6, 2021, with his spear and megaphone. He left a note on the desk of then-Vice President Mike Pence, who was to certify the results of the presidential election won by Joe Biden, saying: “It’s only a matter of time. Justice is coming”.
Justice ruled for him: three and a half years in prison. He was released in the spring of 2023, and is on probation for another 18 months. Four years later, he still refuses to plead guilty. “When I was inside the building, it was to prevent vandalism, violence and thefthe says. I volunteered to help the police. That's why they escorted me. When I left the building, I stopped people from breaking in. So when Trump says it was 'a day of peace and love,' that's what it was. It was love for our country.”
Jake Chansley considers that he only relayed, through his megaphone, the “calls for calm” of the president. “Trump said, 'Go to the Capitol and make your voice heard peacefully and patriotically.' So what happened on January 6 had little to do with Trump. It had much, much more to do with the deep state actors seeking to remove him from power.
“The Deep State”, the “rigged” 2020 election… Jake Chansley relays all the conspiracy theories. He hopes that the 47th president will pardon him once in office. “I would hope that he and his administration would see that I was a nonviolent offender, probably the most visible or publicly known nonviolent offender, and I was treated like a violent offender“, he pleads.
“When Donald Trump talks about pardoning all the non-violent defendants of January 6, I should be part of that group. We'll see what happens.”

Jake Chansley assures that he lives today from the sales of his book on the “deep state”, his spiritual consultations at home and its derivative products, such as the black cap with the white inscription “Free man”, that he wears. His notoriety, acquired on January 6, has become a source of income.
