He is one of the collateral victims of the Jeju Air flight crash. Those that we tend to forget when we think of the victims' loved ones. Behind the 179 of the 181 passengers who died last Sunday are also, despite themselves, a good number of pets who find themselves without owners.
Among them, Pudding's story moved the South Korean press. The dog was found wandering the streets of a village in Yeonggwang County by local charity Care. Pudding was alone because she lost her entire family on Jeju Air Flight 2216, which crashed into one of the walls of Muan Airport.
On board was his appointed master, a 79-year-old old man named Bae, who was preparing to celebrate his 80th birthday, but also his wife, his two daughters and one of his sons-in-law, his 5-year-old granddaughter. and three of his grandsons. “It was Bae's first trip abroad, as he was celebrating his 80th birthday. Nine family members, spanning three generations, took part in the trip,” Care wrote on Instagram.
Of this decimated family, only the husband of one of the girls remains. “I am heartbroken,” the latter told the Yonhap news agency, which chose to give only his initials, MA.
And so Pudding stayed at the home of the oldest passenger on the flight. According to the Korea Times, the animal was wandering when it was found between the family home and the village center, being fed by residents. “We found Pudding sitting quietly outside the town hall. When we approached, she ran towards us, as if she was still waiting for her family,” explains the local association which found her.
The animal was then taken to a veterinary clinic in Seoul. “Although Pudding seemed a little upset during the car ride, she was calm and kind. We are carrying out examinations since his vomit contained bad food and chicken bones,” Care said.
The organization then tried to contact the family's relatives before deciding to find “a new owner” for him.
