The earthquake that struck Vanuatu on December 17 found echoes in the Jura. The archipelago in the Pacific Ocean was shaken by a violent earthquake which left at least 14 dead and 200 injured, but also caused significant destruction.
Véronique Lambert has lived in Vanuatu for 14 years. Passing through the region, the Jurassian and her partner Fahra Cutin are urgently creating an association called “Vanuatu Blong Yumi”, which means “Vanuatu for all of us”. Their objective: to raise funds and organize aid on site. “The earthquake destroyed half of the capital Port Vila. The city is closed for six months and the need for help is significant,” explains Véronique Lambert.
After having already worked on the humanitarian level following the passage of Cyclone Pam in 2015, the Jurassienne is therefore returning to work. “The funds we want to raise now in Jura will be used to help small communities when I return to Vanuatu in a few weeks. This will involve assessing the needs on site,” explains Véronique Lambert.
The founders of the “Vanuatu Blong Yumi” association will organize a friendship drink on January 10 (details on the location and time will be provided later on social networks). Véronique Lambert and Fahra Cutin can be contacted by e-mail at [email protected] and [email protected].
