From sin to grace, in Rome, the first pilgrims have already left behind everything that was not worthy of God and obtained indulgence by crossing the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica, the first door of the four basilicas pontificals to have been opened for the moment by Pope Francis on December 24.

Three Holy Doors remain to be opened
Sunday, December 29, the Holy Door of Saint John Lateran will be opened by its archpriest and vicar of the diocese of Rome, Cardinal Reina, before the mass on the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. On January 1, as the Church celebrates Mary as Mother of God, the Holy Door of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major will be opened by its archpriest, Cardinal Rylko, the former president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Pilgrims will have to wait until January 5, the second Sunday after Christmas, for the opening of the Holy Door of Saint Paul Outside the Walls by Cardinal Harvey, its archpriest.
December 29 is also the date chosen by the Bishop of Rome, so that the Holy Year is solemnly opened by the diocesan bishops in all the cathedrals and co-cathedrals of the world.
The opening of the Holy Doors in Rome has no impact on the calendar of liturgical celebrations of Pope Francis: God bless you December 31; mass on January 1 for the solemnity of Mary Mother of God; celebration of the Epiphany on January 6, and baptisms of newborns on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on Sunday, January 12 in the Sistine Chapel.

Arrivals of the first groups of pilgrims
For this Jubilee 2025, the city of Rome, embellished for the occasion, will be the destination of several hundred pilgrimages. From the first days of January several groups will converge on the Eternal City. The first expected is the movement “Tto us” founded in Italy in 1952 to support young domestic workers employed far from home and today very present in Brazil. He will be succeeded by Italian Catholic teachers, or by the first diocesan pilgrimages, Italian, American, Mexican or French. The diocese of Paris will be in Rome at the end of February.
Jubilee audiences one Saturday per month
Pilgrims will be able to pass through the Holy Doors, meditate at Peter’s tomb or even participate in an audience with the Pope, because Francis has scheduled jubilee audiences one Saturday per month in addition to his Wednesday catechisms. The first will be held on January 11, Place Saint-Pierre.
The Holy See also offers dedicated jubilees throughout this Holy Year, in the presence of the Pope. The first will be dedicated to communicators at the end of January on the occasion of Saint Francis de Sales Days, followed by jubilees dedicated to law enforcement, artists, deacons or volunteering.
