The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation announced on Sunday that an An-2 plane, missing for three days, was located in Kamchatka.

There was three people on board – two crew members and one passenger – who have all survived. They went three days without food, warming themselves by burning fuel and melting snow in a bucket so as not to die of thirst.

According to information from the ministry, the pilots heard signals indicating that a search was underway to find them, but they were unable to communicate due to poor weather conditions.

They were found by rescuers of the Kamchatka Regional Air Transport Service of the Russian Air Transport Agency.

The victims were taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia, while one of the pilots was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury and required surgery.

The An-2, belonging to a private company, was flying between the village of Milkovo and the village of Ossora, in the north of the peninsula, on December 19, to transport a commercial cargo.

Due to intense cold, the plane began to lose altitude. Additionally, the plane was overloaded, which caused the crash.

Following the discovery of the plane, the investigative committee opened criminal proceedings for violation of regulations on air transport operations.
