YouTuber MegaLag found damning evidence against Honey, a popular browser extension promoted by a plethora of big creators such as Linus Tech Tips, MKBHD and MrBeast, and owned by PayPal. Its main selling point is that it helps you find the best discount codes online. This doesn't seem to be the case, as some partner stores may ask Honey to only display specific codes.
Taking MegaLag as an example, if a store offers up to 30% off a particular product via one discount code and 5% off via another code, Honey will only show you the latter, which will contrary to the objective he set for himself. To make matters worse, Honey ends up going against the creators who promoted him.
If you've used Honey before, you'll have noticed that it usually appears right before you checkout. When searching for discount codes, Honey stealthily replaces any affiliate cookies with its own, thereby depriving the creator you support of 100% of their affiliate earnings, even if you don't make the purchase immediately.
This video explains in detail how this system works and we recommend watching it in its entirety. This is the first part of a series of three videos. MegaLag claims to have discovered other anomalies in the service and plans to reveal them in subsequent videos.
