It is a distress call received by the Red Crescent platform in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. On October 10, four days after the start of the ongoing Israeli offensive in northern Gaza, a young woman asked for help. Alaa, 24, manages to contact Nihal, a rescuer from the humanitarian network. The Jewish State Air Force has just bombed his house in Jabaliya. Around her, 12 dead or injured, some buried under the rubble. They are all his family.

“The young woman told me that she was the only one who was conscious, remembers Nihal. She was screaming and crying. The first thing to do was to calm her down so that she could help her loved ones. She assured me that some had died, that others had burns and that there was a case of hemorrhage.”

“I replied that it wasn't going to be easy, but that we were going to sort it out. Priority to the seriously injured.”

Unfortunately it wasn't enough, the injured man bled to death in a few minutes. For 24 hours, Alaa did not move, then the Israeli army arrived and forced her to leave Jabaliya and go south to Gaza City. “On the day of the bombing, I lost my husband, my mother-in-law and a cousinshe says. Five days later, one of my cousins died from her injuries.”

“Our house was directly targeted by a strike. I assure you that we are just ordinary civilians. We have no connection to any armed group or faction.”
