French legislative elections: Karim Ben Cheïkh wins in the first round in the 9th constituency which includes Morocco

According to data from the French Interior Ministry, Karim Ben Cheikh obtained 18,505 votes in the entire ninth constituency, which includes the Maghreb and West African countries, or more than 51% of the votes cast, clearly ahead of Samira Djouadi of the presidential coalition Ensemble (ENS), who received 5,634 votes, or 15.70% of the votes, and also qualified for the second round.

In Casablanca, Karim Ben Cheikh won around 50% of the vote, around 60% in Rabat and 28% in Marrakech.

Despite this significant gap, Karim Ben Cheikh will have to confirm his victory in the second round due to the low turnout in the first round (28.07%). To be elected in the first round, it is necessary to obtain more than 50% of the votes cast and to collect at least 25% of the votes of registered voters. Since Karim Ben Cheikh did not meet this second condition (18,505 votes out of 130,387 registered voters, or 14.19%), a second round is scheduled for Sunday, July 7, when voters will be called to the polls again.

With 33.15% of the votes cast, the National Rally (29.25%) and its allies from the Union of the Far Right (UXD, 3.90%) largely dominated the first round of the early legislative elections on Sunday, June 30, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. They are thus ahead of the New Popular Front (27.99%) and the presidential coalition grouped under the banner Ensemble (20.04%).

If this trend continues in the second round on July 7, the French president could find himself cohabiting with a far-right government. It is clear that the final results of these early legislative elections will lead to a recomposition of the National Assembly and, consequently, a new direction for French politics.
