The possible rise to power of the National Rally, formerly the National Front, worries many African immigrants. On the continent, however, caution is the order of the day. Many prefer to wait for the outcome of the second round of these legislative elections before making a decision.
Moussa Diaw is professor emeritus of political science at the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis in Senegal and a specialist in international relations. According to him, if the National Rally obtains an absolute majority on July 7, France’s relations with Africa could change: “Because they are sovereignists”, he said.

The relations between African countries and France will change in nature, will change fundamentally, because the National Front will prioritize its internal relations.”explains Moussa Diaw.

The Chadian exception
Max Kemkoye, president of the Union of Democrats for Development and Progress, an opposition party in Chad, notes the connections between Marine Le Pen of the National Rally and the Chadian government.
“For us in Chad and the RN seems to be the friend first of the late Idriss Déby Itno, then today it continues with his son. And therefore between the extreme right and the current power, there is collusion But if it only comes down to the opinion of Chadians, they do not look favorably on an extreme right in France.” add Max Kemkoye.
In Africa, in the 9th and 10th constituencies of French people abroad, represented – in total – by eleven deputies in the National Assembly, the National Rally did not achieve the same scores as in mainland France.
