DECRYPTION – While the electronic voting of expatriates ended this Thursday noon, several of these bastions long acquired by the Head of State have massively turned away from him in the European elections.
Some see this as a bad omen. A sign that even the bastions – so far immovable – of Macronism are about to tip over. In just five years, the presidential camp’s score has plummeted by 15 points in the European elections (36.8% in 2019, compared to 21.99% in 2024)z French people living abroad, a category of population usually supported by the head of state. Enough to stay in the lead again this year, but for how long? « It’s a total shift », warns a parliamentarian. Since 2017, Renaissance and its allies have never wavered, winning in 9 of the 11 constituencies covering the four corners of the globe. But the early legislative elections of June 30 and July 7 could reshuffle the cards in several of these territories, where the matches should be closer than in 2022.
