Mayotte is said to be re-exporting its delinquency to the island of Anjouan. Many Anjouanese are convinced of this because attacks are increasing on their island as expulsions from the French department continue.
The Comorian newspaper Al-Watwan reports the testimony of a professor who was riding on the back of a motorcycle, returning from an evening in the Niumakélé region in the south of Anjouan. He was thrown a stone in the face which broke his tooth. The driver of the motorcycle had the good instinct to accelerate, he did not stop, otherwise the outcome could have been worse.
Several witnesses speak of the presence of highway robbers. They threaten their victims to hit them on the head with a machete if they do not give up everything they have, money and telephone.
The operating mode is essentially the same as in Mayotte, hence the general impression that this crime comes from the neighboring island thanks to the Place Net and Wuambushu operations.
This region of Niumakélé is the poorest in Anjouan, it feeds the flow of migrations towards Mayotte. The young people, once returned to the border, find themselves there without any resources.
