Simone Wyss Fedele, director of SGE: “Companies are currently taking calculated risks”

After the end of 2023 marked by a painful appreciation of the franc against the euro and the dollar, the export climate seems to have brightened a little for Swiss SMEs active internationally. In any case, this is what the half-yearly survey published this Wednesday by Switzerland Global Enterprise (SGE), an organization which supports companies in their approach to new markets, suggests.

Against a backdrop of tense geopolitical context, optimism remains moderate, one in two companies surveyed – there were 200 in total – are counting on an increase in their exports in the months to come. Conversely, only 12% of SMEs expect a decline. Following the succession of crises that punctuated the start of the decade, companies are mainly seeking to cope as best they can with a more fragmented economy, as described by Simone Wyss Fedele, director of SGE since 2019.
