This was again the case on Sunday November 17 during a visit to the Amazon, for one of his last trips abroad.

Joe Biden stopped in an idyllic setting, in the middle of the jungle, before joining the G20 meeting scheduled for Rio de Janeiro on Monday. On this occasion, he took the opportunity to send a message in favor of environmental protection. “The fight to protect our planet is literally a fight for humanity for generations to come”he said, indirectly referring to his successor, whose second term is particularly worrying about the future climate policy of the United States.
Joe Biden also estimated that global warming is “perhaps the only existential threat to all our nations and all humanity.” But during this sequence, where he was surrounded by majestic trees, Joe Biden also stood out for other reasons. It must be said that her outfit and the decor particularly amused American (and French) Internet users.
Indeed, the President of the United States gave this speech in the middle of the Amazon jungle, in Manaus, creating, despite himself, a disturbing resemblance to Jeff Probst, host of Survivor, the equivalent of our Koh Lanta on American television. A fun likeness, accentuated by his open shirt and the forest setting worthy of a tip from TV's most famous survival adventure show.

The end of his speech also forced another comparison, thanks to a particularly commented out of frame. “ Biden turning around and walking through the forest like he's the anchor Survivor,” wrote an American Internet user amused by the situation.
For others, this theatrical outing was especially reminiscent of his camp's recent defeat in the presidential election. His departure, with his back to the cameras, perfectly illustrating the usual eliminations of the show.
Although mocked, this visit by Joe Biden was not at all usual since he is the first American president in office to visit the Amazon, as the White House pointed out. Welcomed by local officials and by Carlos Nobre, a Brazilian climatologist awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, the outgoing president took part in an overview of the forest, before going to a nature reserve, accompanied by his daughter Ashley and of his granddaughter Natalie.
On site, he took the opportunity to announce a doubling, to one hundred million dollars, of the American contribution to the Amazon Fund, an international fund for the protection of this forest. This is not the totem of immunity, but an already encouraging act for this area among the world's vulnerable to climate change.
