Ten bodies were found in different parts of the port of Acapulco, in southern Mexico, hit by the scourge of organized crime, the local Public Security Secretariat said.

The bodies of two women and four men were notably abandoned Monday evening on an avenue near a market, the secretariat told the press, adding that the other bodies were found after various acts of violence in other neighborhoods. from the city.

According to local press, the six abandoned bodies, which have not yet been identified, were thrown from a car.

Authorities later said they found the bodies of three men and three injured people after a shooting in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood in the north of the city.

And a bullet-riddled body of another man was discovered on the avenue that runs along the coast, the tourist area of ​​Acapulco.

The famous seaside resort on the Pacific coast, destroyed at the end of October by a powerful hurricane, is located in the state of Guerrero, one of the most affected by the criminal activities of drug cartels. Some 1,890 murders were recorded there in 2023.

On Friday, the bodies of four people were found dismembered in Acapulco. One of the victims was a candidate for local office in the June 2 general election.

Violence linked to cartels has left some 450,000 dead and more than 100,000 missing since 2006, when President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012) launched a military offensive against drug trafficking.
