The return home of pilgrims who have completed the hajj is generally an occasion for celebrations with their loved ones. But this year, hundreds of families in Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Jordan are in mourning: more than 1,000 believers perished while performing the pilgrimage to Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, which took place from Friday June 14 to Wednesday June 19, with an overheating thermometer: 50°C was exceeded on Monday.

Tragedy, such as the deadly stampede of 2015 (more than 2,000 dead), regularly occurs during this great religious moment, which brought together more than 1.8 million Muslims. Climate change poses the threat of extreme conditions in the future.
