A passerby died after being stabbed in a parking lot on Sunday in Marcq-en-Baroeul (North), near Lille, said a police source, specifying that a suspect was arrested.

“A passerby was the target of a stabbing in a parking lot, for no reason” according to the first elements of the investigation, indicated the police source, specifying that the events took place around 6:00 p.m. The victim “was walking his dog.” “A homeless person was arrested,” added the same source.

Cardiac massage performed in vain

Contacted by AFP, the prefecture confirmed “a murder late in the afternoon” in Marcq-en-Baroeul without further details. A municipal source told AFP that the victim, a sixty-year-old, had gone to walk a friend’s dog on the towpath along the canal.

He was attacked near a DIY and decoration store and a fast food restaurant. A jogger, an emergency doctor, performed the first aid procedures and attempted a cardiac massage, in vain, a municipal source added.
