Only a few more days to wait before we see the summer season officially begin on June 20. Who says summer season, says vacation. Some people opt for the mountains just to indulge in some hiking, others are attracted by fine sandy beaches. Destinations are also particularly popular for summer holidays. A report from Europ Assistance indicated that France was favored by the Belgians this summer. 27% of respondents want to go to France, while 18% are tempted by Spain. Both countries are home to magnificent beaches, particularly in Corsica or Formentera where the Spanish Caribbean is located.

But did you know that a country located further east also hides magnificent beaches? It is neither Croatia nor Albania, but Poland. This hidden treasure is located in a coastal region of the Baltic Sea called Pomerania. It is located in the north of the country. Here, you will find beaches of fine white sand stretching for kilometers, more than 770 to be precise, with areas developed as seaside resorts but also wilder settings.

Discover in pictures which is the sunniest destination in Europe:

Sopot, the must-see on the Polish coast

The most popular seaside resort in Pomerania is Sopot. You will find a Belle Epoque atmosphere, a long wooden pier, a beach of almost five kilometers, as well as a marina that can accommodate yachts, giving it the air of a little Saint-Tropez. The city is a destination of choice for people looking for a vacation focused on balneotherapy.

Hel beach, between beaches, dunes and pine forests

Among the beaches you absolutely must discover in Poland, there are those of Hel spread over around thirty kilometers. Hel is actually a peninsula forming a crescent moon. The atmosphere here is much wilder and more authentic than Sopot. You can take a stroll along the water or indulge in longe-côte, a water sport that is becoming more and more popular, born in the north of France. A small fishing port is also located where it is possible to buy fresh fish and seafood. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of the hinterland of the peninsula where there are dunes and pine forests.

Leba beach, the spot to discover clear waters

Leba Beach is another must-see on the Polish coast. The white sand here is very fine and the water is clear. You will also discover dunes and forests there. Note that the place is home to mobile dunes, a geological phenomenon caused by the meeting between the natural forces of sand and the coast of the Baltic Sea. These dunes have been present for thousands of years and are still in constant movement. You can practice windsurfing and other water sports. Other activities are offered including a treetop adventure course for the more adventurous, a butterfly exhibition, cycling and even horse riding.

What about temperatures in summer?

The waters of Polish beaches have the advantage of not being too deep and are therefore an ideal destination for family holidays. It is necessary to count between 25 and 30 degrees in July and August. However, expect cooler temperatures if you plan to swim in the Baltic Sea with a thermometer between 17 and 21 degrees. The best season for exploring the Polish coast is from the end of June to the end of September. A good reason to book your tickets or take a train journey or road trip.
