The president’s future chief of staff maintains ties with the Republican old guard
On Wednesday, at the end of American election night, on the stage of the convention center in West Palm Beach, Florida, Susie Wiles, the strategist of Donald Trump’s triumph, finally appeared in full light. “What a job!” thanked the future president, trying in vain to convince her to say a few words. “Susie likes to stay in the background. We call her the ice maiden,” laughed Donald Trump. On Thursday, he named her chief of staff. This is the first time that a woman will occupy this strategic position, a position closest to the tenant of the White House. The speed of this decision confirms that Donald Trump is much better prepared to exercise power than during his first term.
“Susie Wiles is strong, intelligent, innovative and universally admired and respected,” praised Donald Trump in a press release, announcing the first appointment of his new administration. He could have added feared, as this 67-year-old grandmother, with curvy silver hair, is renowned for not giving quarters.
