“Loss with a resounding”, “fiasco” but also “just turning things around”: Monday morning, Russian propagandists and officials were particularly rejoicing at the electoral disappointment of Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz in the European election. A disappointment that they attribute without hesitation to their commitment to Ukraine, especially as regards the French president. Bad joy turns to euphoria, according to opposition political scientist Andrei Nikulin. “Somewhere behind the red brick wall of the Kremlin, we have to pop the champagne,” he wrote on the night of June 10 on his Telegram account. “It’s obviously an image,” he explains in an interview with Time. “But the conviction that we will end up dividing Europeans in this way to weaken and subjugate them does exist in the Kremlin. Moreover, the spin doctors must already prepare arguments explaining how “our” Navy [Le Pen] will ruin the pro-Ukrainian European consensus and torpedo Macron’s plans to increase support for kyiv,” he continues.
