You will not be able to go to your polling station on June 30 and July 7 for the legislative elections caused by Emmanuel Macron’s decision to dissolve the National Assembly, it is still possible to vote by proxy by authorizing another voter, provided you don’t delay.

There are now four ways to make your proxy: for the European elections, it was possible to do the process entirely online – it is not yet certain that this will be the case for these early legislative elections. It is also possible to complete the process partially online, or entirely or partially in an authorized establishment (police station, gendarmerie and judicial court). In almost all cases, a trip to one of these places or to the town hall will be necessary. Depending on your choice and when you do it, “you risk not being able to vote if the town hall does not receive your proxy in time or if it does not have the time necessary to take it into account”explains the government.

Before starting your proxy process, have the voter number and date of birth of the person who will vote for you or all their civil status data as well as the name of their voting municipality . Once you have this information, here are the steps to follow.

The classic procedure: complete a paper form to submit to an authorized establishment

Traditionally, it is possible to complete a power of attorney form at a police station, a gendarmerie or the judicial court to which one’s home or place of work depends. This official document is also available online on the public service website. It is possible to print it at home and fill it out by hand, or download it and fill it out from your computer, then print it on two separate sheets. The double-sided format is not accepted.

You need information relating to your identity and that of the person who will be responsible for voting for you: your surnames, first names, dates of birth and national voter numbers (entered on your respective electoral cards). Sections reserved for administration must not be completed.

“When your document is ready, you must present yourself with proof of identity to one of the following places: police station (wherever it is), gendarmerie (wherever it is), judicial court [ou un] place welcoming the public (defined by the prefect) », specifies the government. A receipt will then be given to you. Be careful, queues are sometimes observed there in the days preceding the election.

How do I complete my procedure online?

For the European elections, it was possible to complete the process entirely online using a France Idété identifier, it is not yet certain that this will be the case for the legislative elections. However, it is possible to make your proxy partially online with one of the France Connect authentication methods (Ameli, La Poste, impots.gouv.fr, etc.). If you have an authentication method associated with FranceConnect, go to the site maprocuration.gouv.fr.

From there, you will be asked to identify yourself with this FranceConnect identifier and validate your identity. Secondly, you will have to manually enter the identity of your proxy by providing, as desired, their voter number and date of birth or their marital status and their municipality or voting consulate. You do not need this person to be registered on FranceConnect. If there is no error in the information given and your agent has been identified, you will be able to validate and choose to mandate it for a given period − we can imagine that in the coming days it will be possible to choose to mandate it only for the legislative elections as was the case for the European elections.

You will obtain a file number and your request will be taken into account, but “for your proxy to be valid on voting day you must have your identity verified”. You will have to go to a police station, a gendarmerie, a judicial court or to an agent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if you are outside France. This step is essential. “In the absence of validation [de votre identité]your proxy will not be able to vote in your place”, says the government. It also reminds you that your agent does not need to be present during this verification.

“If a disability or serious illness prevents you from traveling, you can ask for a police or gendarmerie officer to come to your home or to the specialized establishment where you are to verify your identity”, assures the government. However, this process is carried out in writing with a sworn declaration, which lengthens the time of the procedure.
