The Civic Coalition of liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk (European People’s Party, EPP), in power since December 2023, obtained a historic and unexpected victory with 37.4% of the vote, according to the latest estimates. The party of the former President of the European Council thus finds itself in the lead for the first time in a decade and ends a series of eight consecutive victories for the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, in power between 2015 and 2023.

Having nevertheless been in the lead in the polls during the campaign, the PiS came in second place, with 35.7% of the votes. The far-right Confederation of Freedom and Independence achieved a historically high score, with 11.8% of the votes, the highest since the creation of the party in 2018. Third Way, alliance of the Polish Peasant Party (EPP) and Christians- Democrats of Poland 2050 (Renew), won 7.3% of the votes (4 MEPs) and the left 6.6% (3 MEPs).

“Among the large European states, we undoubtedly achieved the best score for a pro-European party in power! »enthused Donald Tusk in front of his activists, seeing Poland as the “leader of the EU”.
