A medical error which could have had dramatic consequences.

As reported NPRan American patient, Thomas T. J. Hoover, woke up as a medical team prepared to remove his heart. The incident occurred at Baptist Health Richmond Hospital in Kentucky in October 2021. Declared brain dead by doctors after an overdose of medication, this 36-year-old man was yet very much alive on the operating table.

To our colleagues, she explains that she heard the coordinator of the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) association insistently ask doctors to perform the surgical procedure.
