Two young adults aged 18 and 19 lost their lives in a road accident early this Saturday, October 19 in Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac, a town located between Bordeaux and Libourne (Gironde), reports France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The exact circumstances of this accident are not yet known but initial elements indicate that wild boars could be at the origin.
According to Gironde firefighters, the accident occurred around 4 a.m. on a departmental road. The two victims’ car “ran into a tree”, Pierre Cotsas, the mayor of Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac, told France 3, who went to the scene of the tragedy shortly after. These two young people, from the neighboring towns of Saint-Loubès and Izon, “died instantly”.
Wild boars “seen nearby”
No other vehicle being involved in this accident, the hypothesis of a collision between the car and wild animals or of the vehicle swerving in order to avoid them is considered by the gendarmes in charge of the investigation.
According to Pierre Costas, “wild boars were seen nearby and parts of animal corpses were found”.
As indicated by France Bleu Gironde, a witness must also be heard as part of the investigation opened by the Carbon-Blanc gendarmerie brigade.
