One last ticket to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ in South America

The cast of the most inclusive competition in the history of club football – the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ – is refined. At the end of October, we will know the identity of the 31st qualified club, with the CONMEBOL 2024 Copa Libertadores being called upon to deliver its verdict. Five South American teams have already qualified for the tournament: only one place remains reserved for the CONMEBOL zone. Three of the four clubs still competing in the 2024 Copa Libertadores have the opportunity to win it. The Paraguayans from Olimpia can still claim qualification but the results must go their way. River Plate (ARG), semi-finalist, can approach the meeting with confidence: its place among the 32 globalists is already assured through the ranking. But the performance of Millionaires can impact the qualification process of their continental neighbors.

River faces Atlético Mineiro (BRA) in the last four. The first leg of the semi-finals is scheduled for October 22, with the second leg at home taking place a week later. if they qualify for the final, the Argentines will maintain their hopes of winning their fifth continental crown. For its part, Olimpia will still have a chance of qualifying for the Club World Cup.

Indeed, if the residents of the Monumental win the continental title at the end of November, it is as champions of South America that they will go to the Club World Cup in 2025. This would free up the qualifying place via ranking – currently held by River – that Olimpia is eyeing. On the other hand, if River Plate does not qualify for the final, Olimpia’s hopes will be dashed at the end of October.

In the event of qualification for the continental final, Atlético Mineiro would make an appointment with the winner of the double confrontation between CA Peñarol (URU) and Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas (BRA), who will play the first leg in Brazil on October 23 and return a week later. Whichever of these three teams is crowned champion will also qualify for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™, the ticket reserved for the winner of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores

Having each won one of the three previous South American titles, the Brazilian trio Palmeiras – Flamengo – Fluminense have ensured their participation in the prestigious tournament, which will see 63 matches played in the United States, across 12 venues, between the 15 June and July 13, 2025.

Although not participating in this year’s Copa Libertadores, Boca Juniors secured one of the two qualifying places available via the rankings, having performed well in the competition over the past four years’ qualifying period.
