Because of Storm Kirk, Seine-et- has its feet in the water. The department is even still on red alert this Thursday for floods. And this natural disaster has particularly negative consequences on travel.

“Special school circuits, transport circuits for students with disabilities and regular line services primarily providing access to educational establishments are prohibited for the day of October 10 throughout the department” , indicates a decree published Wednesday on the prefecture website.

A “very significant rainy episode”

The prefect of the department also, in another press release, “recommended that populations postpone (their) travel”. Companies and administrations are also “invited to facilitate the implementation of teleworking for their employees, but also to limit or postpone travel and deliveries”.

In its bulletin published Wednesday afternoon, Météo- placed Seine-et-Marne on red alert as a “very significant rainy episode” crosses part of France. “The expected amounts of rain could cause a strong to exceptional flood on (the) Grand Morin river. Rapid rises and localized overflows could be observed as early as Wednesday evening,” according to the specialized government site Vigicrues.

This episode of rain could cause significant flooding and create major traffic difficulties on the road and rail networks, as well as power cuts, warns the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne.
