Thunderbird for Android: the final version should arrive in October
It’s been over two years since Mozilla announced it would bring Thunderbird to Android. The last update on the Android version was from June 2024, which also mentioned a launch initially planned for June. This date was postponed, but progress continued. Interested users have been able to test the beta version of Thunderbird on their Android devices for a few days now. One of the biggest benefits of the new app is the easy transfer of email accounts from Mozilla-acquired K-9 Mail to Thunderbird for Android. Users who have the latest version of K-9 Mail can import their accounts directly into Thunderbird without additional connections or complicated setup. Mozilla also plans to enable seamless data transfer between Thunderbird on the desktop and the Android version in the future. The Thunderbird beta phase on Android will be relatively short. According to the official roadmap, the first beta version has been available since September 30, while the first “release candidate” is expected for the third week of October. The final release is scheduled for the fourth week of October.

The Thunderbird beta for Android already offers all the basic functions of a modern email client. Users can configure their email accounts by simply entering their email address and password, or make manual server settings for more complex configurations. Thunderbird allows you to receive emails, read them, switch between accounts, and move messages to different folders. Push notifications for new emails, editing drafts, composing and sending messages, as well as common functions such as replying, forwarding and deleting are also integrated. If you want to test the beta, you can download Thunderbird for Android from the Google Play Store or access newer versions via Github.
