Israel-Hamas war: students continue their action at UGent, supported by professors
Israel-Hamas war: students continue their action at UGent, supported by professors

Lhe UGent students who occupied part of the university to protest against the war in Gaza are continuing their action and will receive the support of around sixty professors, doctoral students and staff members from Monday, they said on Sunday evening.

Around a hundred students began the occupation last week. Activists from the organizations Ghent Students for Palestine and End Fossil Gent demanded, and still demand, that the Ghent university sever all ties it maintains with Israeli institutions and put sustainability at the center of all its budgetary and educational.

The UGent did not authorize the occupation, but agreements were reached with the approximately 300 people who now occupy the building. The latter complained on Sunday evening about the lack of reaction from the university management. They asked rector Rik Van de Walle to contact them to organize a consultation.

From Monday, staff members will also sleep in the building.
