Saudi Arabia on Saturday renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, amid the ongoing Israeli attack on the besieged enclave.

“The question of Palestine remains a priority for the Muslim community which wants the brotherly people of Palestine to access their rights,” declared Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, during the 15th summit of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Banjul, the Gambian capital.

“Since the launch of this aggression, the Kingdom has been cooperating with brotherly peoples and countries to protect the population of Gaza,” he added.

“The Israeli aggression continues and even intensifies against civilians, hospitals, schools and infrastructure, causing thousands of victims,” noted the Saudi minister.

And added: “The kingdom reiterates its demand for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip”, renewing its country’s call for the provision of safe passages and the alleviation of the ordeal of Palestinian people.

The OIC summit kicked off on Saturday in the Gambian capital Banjul.

The two-day summit, whose theme is “Strengthening unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development”, will address global issues, including the current situation in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, which has so far killed more than 34,600 people. .

During the summit, three key documents – a draft Palestinian resolution, a draft Banjul declaration and a draft outcome document – ​​will be presented to the Council of Foreign Ministers and then to the summit for discussion.
