Opening in Banjul of the 15th OIC Summit with the participation of Morocco

The work of the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference, held under the theme “Promoting unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development”, opened on Saturday in Banjul, Gambia, in the presence of heads of State and government of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

His Majesty King Mohammed VI is represented at this Summit by the Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq.

The Moroccan delegation to this Summit includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, accompanied by the Moroccan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the OIC, Mustapha Mansouri, the ambassador, director general of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, Mohamed Methqal, the charge d’affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Gambia, Ahmed Belhaj, and several officials from the ministry.

The opening ceremony of this Summit chaired by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, representing the Custodian of the Holy Places of Islam, King Salman Ibn Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Ruler of Arabia Saudi Arabia, took place in the presence of the Gambian Head of State, Adama Barrow, the Secretary General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, as well as heads of state and government of member countries.

This 15th session was preceded, Thursday and Friday, by a meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, held at the “Dauda Kairaba Diawara” International Conference Center, and by a preparatory meeting of Senior Officials, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 15th OIC Summit will discuss political issues of interest to the Islamic world, chief among which is the Palestinian question.

Member State leaders will also discuss economic, humanitarian, social and cultural issues, including issues relating to youth, women, the family, science, technology, the media and Muslim communities. .

Emphasis will also be placed on themes linked to the rejection of hate speech and Islamophobia, the promotion of dialogue, as well as issues linked to climate change and food security.

This 15th session will be sanctioned by the Final Declaration including the positions of the Organization on the issues presented at the Summit, as well as by a resolution on Palestine and Al-Quds Acharif and the Banjul Declaration.
