Disturbing disappearance of foreign surfers in Mexico: three lifeless bodies found

VSn Friday, three bodies were found in Mexico, where authorities were searching for two Australian nationals and an American national. “We can confirm that three deceased individuals were found in Santo Tomas, Baja California”, a Mexican region bordering the United States, American federal police told AFP, without revealing their identity.

Mexican authorities announced earlier Friday that they were intensifying their search operations in this region of northwest Mexico, marked by cartel violence.

Two Australian brothers, Jake and Callum Robinson, and an American, Jack Carter, have been missing since April 27. They were vacationing near the coastal town of Ensenada, about 28 miles from Santo Tomas. The mother of the two Australians, Debra Robinson, indicated on Facebook that they never arrived at the accommodation they had booked.

A pick-up truck found

Earlier Friday, searches were underway near cliffs around Ensenada, according to the municipality. On Thursday, authorities in the Baja California region indicated that three Mexicans were being questioned in connection with these disappearances. “A white pickup truck was found, as well as other evidence,” the state prosecutor said in a statement, specifying that the investigation was taking place in coordination with American and Australian authorities.

Dangerous zone

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described these disappearances as “very worrying”. Baja California, famous for its beaches, is also one of the most violent states in Mexico due to the presence of criminal groups. In November 2015, two Australian surfers, Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman, were killed in the state of Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico.
