The Massachusetts District Attorney’s Office announced it will not file criminal charges against a 60-year-old woman in whose home the bodies of four babies were found frozen, due to too many unanswered questions.
“This investigation, which is one of the most complex, unusual and perplexing this office has ever encountered, is now complete. Although we have some answers, many elements of this case will likely never be answered,” prosecutor Kevin Hayden said in a statement, according to Fox News on Thursday.
The Suffolk District Attorney on Tuesday ended the investigation into the deaths of four babies, ages 37 to 40 weeks, who were found frozen in November 2022, wrapped in foil and placed in boxes of shoes inside a freezer.
It was the brother of the main suspect, the mother of the four babies Alexis Aldamir, 69, who made the macabre discovery while cleaning his sister’s apartment in the South Boston neighborhood, after having placed her in care residence.
The problem is that no scientific method would have allowed investigators to determine when the death of the four babies, two boys and two girls, occurred, nor even the cause of their death, which could have been stillborn.
But these questions are essential to proceed with filing charges, Fox News said. According to reports, the autopsy also revealed no signs of injury on the small bodies, and no traces of food or milk in their stomachs.
What’s more, the former colleagues of the sixty-year-old, who would have worked with her in a compatibility firm between 1980 and 2021, would never have been aware of any pregnancy in the “corpulent” woman who had a penchant for wearing clothes ample,” according to what they told investigators.
The woman had also put up for adoption a daughter, born in 1982, from the same parents as the four other babies. The father of the five children died in 2011, so no charges could be brought against him.
For her part, Alexis Aldamir no longer seemed fit to stand trial when she was allegedly encountered by investigators, as she appeared “confused” and “demonstrated a lack of understanding of where she was and to whom she spoke,” noted the American media.
“A prosecutor cannot ethically move forward in a case that he believes, in good faith, cannot be brought before a court,” concluded Kevin Hayden, announcing the closure of the file.
