Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced Saturday “brutal attacks” targeting Hezbollah and accused Israel of preparing a “genocide” in Lebanon. “Lebanon and the Lebanese people are the new target of the policy of genocide, occupation and invasion carried out by Israel since October 7”he says in a message published on the social network X.

“As a result of Israel’s brutal attacks, many Lebanese, including children, have been murdered over the past week. No person with a conscience can accept, excuse or justify such a massacre.”he writes. The Turkish leader did not comment on the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, killed Friday in a strike near Beirut.

Mr. Erdogan, who for months has accused the Israeli army of committing “genocide” against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, calls in his message to stop “Israel’s attempts to extend its senseless policy (…) to Lebanon and other countries in the region ». At the United Nations on Tuesday, he had already accused Israel of“drag the entire region into war”.
