The Israeli army said Saturday that the “elimination” of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah made the world “safer” and insisted it would continue to eliminate other commanders of the armed Islamist movement.

“Nasrallah was one of the greatest enemies of all time of the State of Israel… His elimination makes the world a safer place,” said army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, during a televised press conference, the day after the strike which cost the life of the leader of Hezbollah, in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

In a separate statement, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant addressed the Lebanese people: “We are not at war with you. This is the time for change.”

“To our enemies, I say: We are strong and determined,” he added.

For its part, the Israeli Army’s Home Front Command (passive defense) announced new security measures for central Israel, banning gatherings of more than a thousand people, particularly in Tel Aviv. and surrounding areas, where tens of thousands of people have gathered every Saturday for months for anti-government protests.

Cross-border clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli army have been going on since October. With the military escalation of the last ten days, the pro-Iranian Shiite movement, which concentrated its rocket fire mainly on northern Israel, widened the scope of its attacks to the center of the country this week.
