UA 15-year-old girl was killed on Saturday by falling through the roof of an abandoned factory in Unieux () and another 17-year-old was seriously injured in this fall, we learned from the firefighters and the municipality.

“The two victims are part of a group of four young people who broke into this industrial wasteland straddling my town and the neighboring town of Fraisses,” Christophe Faverjon, the PCF mayor of Unieux, told AFP.

The two other people from this group of urbex practitioners (the exploration of urban wastelands), “witnesses of the accident and shocked were taken care of by the emergency services”, specified the latter who were called to the scene at midday.

The Swedish steel group Akers closed this factory in 2010, which then employed 120 employees. Installed on a 6.5 hectare site, now owned by the community, it occasionally attracts squatters, graffiti artists, urbex practitioners or people who use it as illegal dumping.

“This industrial wasteland is being decontaminated, before being demolished,” said Christophe Faverjon, also vice-president of the Saint-Etienne metropolis.

During the night from Sunday to Monday, a 17-year-old high school student, who was apparently practicing urbex alone, killed himself in by falling from the dome of the Hôtel-Dieu, from where he wanted to photograph the sunrise.
