Several Malian political parties denounced, on Wednesday, the silence of the Transition authorities regarding the electoral timetable.

These include the African Party for Solidarity and Justice (PASJ), the Rally for Mali (RPM), PARENA (Party for National Renaissance), the Party for Economic Development and Solidarity (PDES) , Yelema (Change) and the June 5 Movement Rally of Patriotic Forces (M5-RFP Mali-Kura).

The Adema PASJ and PARENA parties therefore invite the authorities to consensually set a timetable for returning to constitutional order through free, transparent and credible elections.

They urge the authorities to create the conditions of trust and sacred union around Mali and the defense and security forces to face the threats and challenges that beset the country, to release prisoners of conscience and allow the return of political exiles.

The Party for Economic Development and Solidarity (PDES) for its part expressed its serious concerns and its lack of clarity regarding the trajectory of the transition before urging the authorities to break the silence and work for a return to normal constitutional order.

The Rally for Mali (RPM) calls for the responsibility of the President of the Transition to urgently put in place a new transitional mechanism for a return to constitutional order within six (06) months.

The M5 RPF Mali-Kura and YELEMA, recall that this is the second time that the president of the transition and his government have failed to respect their commitment, relating to the organization of credible elections to end the transition .

They also invite the people to come together and defend the principles of democracy and good governance, the guarantees of a Mali of progress and justice.

As a reminder, the duration of the transition in Mali has been set at 24 months, announced on June 6, 2022, the Minister of Territorial Administration and government spokesperson, Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga.

“The duration of the transition in Mali is set at 24 months, starting from March 26, 2022, in accordance with article 22 of law n°2022-001 of February 25, 2022 revising the Transition Charter,” said he indicated, reading a decree signed by the President of the transition, Colonel Assimi Goïta.

On August 18, 2020, a coup d’état took place, led by Colonel Assimi Goïta, after numerous demonstrations organized by the June 5 Movement Rally of Patriotic Forces (M5-RFP). Bah N’Daw, retired colonel and former Minister of Defense, is designated president of the transition, while Colonel Assimi Goïta, leader of the coup d’état, is designated vice-president responsible for defense and security issues.

A change of government then led to a second coup d’état, also known as a “coup de force”, on May 25, 2021, Colonel Assimi Goïta deposed Bah N’Daw president of the Transition and took charge of the country.
