The AMD Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F BOX appear at a European reseller: the prices are scary!

Two weeks ago now, we presented to you the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F And AMD Ryzen 5 8400Ftwo new processors AMD to socket AM5, based respectively on the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G but with both the integrated GPU (graphics part) and the NPU (AI calculation part) both disabled. In the end, all that remains is the part CPU available.

At the time, we had already noticed at H&Co that AMD intended to launch boxed versions of its two new processors and that the launch was announced globally and not only in China as some rumors claimed, something which seems now confirmed while some resellers in Canada and Slovenia are starting to add the 8700F and 8400F BOX to their catalogs.

In our publication, we also explained that these 8700F and 8400F would only be of interest to the “connoisseur” public on the condition of being offered at significantly lower prices, in particular because of the only 16 MB of memory. L3 cache that they carry while there are Ryzen 7000s that ultimately have more performance thanks to their 32 MB of L3. Unfortunately, the first prices which are appearing on the web tend to suggest that these 8400F and 8700F could well be above all “pigeon traps” for those who will see a Ryzen 8000 and say to themselves that it is necessarily better than a Ryzen 7000, while this is not the case in the case of these two new models. Unless obviously these first prices gleaned from the internet are in no way representative of the final prices, there is still a little hope.

In this brief, we will focus more specifically on the prices indicated by the Slovenian reseller Funtech as it is European and has a VAT close to ours in (22%), but be aware that the orders of magnitude are equivalent in a Canadian store which also added the 8700F and 8400F in recent days to its website.

In the end, if we believe this Slovenian reseller as well as the Canadian one, the AMD Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F BOX would ultimately be barely cheaper than the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8500G, which are the two benchmarks for CPU performance closest to the two new guys. We really hope that this is just a misunderstanding and crazy pre-launch prices from both resellers simultaneously, because in the end the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 5 7600 would ultimately be around the same but above all, much more efficient than the two newcomers, which would still be a shame, especially since the two Ryzen 7000s have, at least, a small integrated GPU which is always reassuring in the event of a problem. As they say: Wait & see! The wait may no longer be long since the Slovenian reseller indicates availability which could take place from May 15, 2024.
