Colter Shaw, the character played by Justin Hartley in the series Tracker is back in a season 2 available on Disney + that’s a little too supernatural for our tastes.
Since Wednesday January 15, 2025, Disney+ offers, every Wednesday, season 2 of Tracker (our opinion), the detective series with actor Justin Hartley. After a first episode marked by the departure of Teddi Bruin, the wife of Velma Bruin, who was – like her partner – one of Colter Shaw’s assistants, the bounty hunter returns in a new investigation, this Wednesday January 22, 2025, in which he finds Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles), his brother.
Tracker : What is season 2 of the Disney + series with Justin Hartley about?
The first episode of season 2 of Tracker introduced a new mystery: the disappearance of a young girl named Gina Pickett, who disappeared ten years ago. This case poses another long-term mystery for Colter, who has an intimate connection with the victim’s sister, Camille (Floriana Lima). Although it’s not as exciting as what happened to Colter’s father in season 1 of Tracker, Gina’s story helped add another interest to the series. Episode 2 of season 2, however, moved away Tracker of its roots. This new investigation, which takes the brothers to a top secret Department of Defense site that the military appears to be using to communicate with extraterrestrials, leaves room for the possibility that they have been in contact with extraterrestrials, opening the door to more paranormal explanations in the series.
Tracker : Should you watch season 2 of the Disney + series with Justin Hartley? Our opinion
The series further compromises its basic premise with realistic cases in episode 5, introducing a young girl named Emmaline with magical healing powers. We have to wait until episode 6 to find a more classic mystery with three friends who disappeared during a camping trip. While investigating, Colter comes across a retired police officer, Keaton (Brent Sexton), who has been working on an old, unsolved case for 20 years. Without any supernatural element, this case brings Colter back to his investigative skills. After its recent encounter with witches and aliens, the series really needed more down-to-earth storylines. Anchored in reality, Tracker should not have left this space to paranormal and supernatural elements which took us away from the very real mysteries of what happened to Ashton Shaw, his father, but also Gina Pickett, his girlfriend’s sister…
In the end, if the first six episodes of this season 2 will have left us sometimes perplexed by taking totally unexpected paths, a few points give us hope for the future, such as the return of Russell Shaw (Jensen Ackles) – which should make several appearances – and a turn started again in episode 6, suggesting the best for the next episodes.
