Baby Jumper, DJ at only 8 years old

During the day, Léon Denoiseux goes to school in Beauraing and at night, he mixes behind his turntables in evenings like the Gedinne bullfight.

He’s only eight years old and already setting the dance floor on fire. Léon Denoiseux, aka Baby Jumper, is an aspiring DJ. He takes inspiration from the greatest to set the mood on the dance floor with his turntables.

There are a lot of artists that I like! For example, Avicii or David Guetta… My style is more electro and techno.

For Baby Jumper, it all started two years ago, when he received his first children’s decks on Saint Nicholas’ Day. It was at that moment that the young DJ discovered his passion for music, says his mother.

He started mixing with this toy turntable at family birthday parties. What was a little complicated at the beginning was that only hardcore music from Papi Jumper was playing! And then, with this deck, he didn’t know how to make smooth transitions. So we were a little upset at first, but it made us happy to see him so motivated.

Influenced by the “Papi Jumper”

Papi Jumper is a hardcore DJ duo that Léon met through his godfather and whom he was able to accompany on stage during a children’s festival. They were the ones who advised him on what equipment to buy to get started and who inspired his stage name, he explains.

Baby means baby, since I’m a child. Jumper means jumper. As I know the Papi Jumper, I wanted to take that name.

Baby Jumper also trained with DJ Flash, which allowed him to learn more about mixing techniques.

I learned to press the buttons, set the tempo, cue the music.

Mom, manager and big fan

At 8 years old, little Léon often fends for himself. He even installs his own equipment. But he is always accompanied by his parents. His mother is his manager, his biggest fan and the one who reassures him behind the scenes when stress starts to mount.

I am very proud of him. I’m also amazed at his determination, because as adults we can sometimes break it and shrink it because of our fears. But despite that, he holds on and he wants it.

After the Gedinne bullfight, Baby Jumper already has other dates planned in the region. His goal, like many DJs, is to one day mix at the Tomorrowland festival.
