a hospital series that restores energy to the genre

Noah Wyle’s face will quickly tell you something because he played the character of D^r John Carter in the series “Emergencies” for no less than 255 episodes, from 1994 to 2009. We find him today in the somewhat similar role of D^r Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in “The Pitt”, the new series on the Max platform. Each of the fifteen episodes follows an hour of custody of the D^r Robby, chief of the emergency department at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital.

So, yes, it’s yet another American hospital series and we’ve seen several in recent years like “The Resident” with Matt Czuchry or the excellent “New Amsterdam” with Ryan Eggold. And, watching the first images from “The Pitt,” you may feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine. However, after a few minutes of observation, the story, even the stories, literally takes us on board. We quickly realize that it is not a pale copy and paste of its illustrious predecessor “Emergencies”, but a real drama of today which integrates current issues such as abuse opioids and many others.

We let ourselves be taken in by the parade of sick and injured people, more or less serious, in Robby’s emergency department, with its colorful characters.

Frantic pace

As much as the episodes of “Emergency” often covered an entire shift, here the events, which take place at the Pittsburgh hospital, function a bit like another legendary series “24 Hours”. Everything goes quickly, we move from one case to another at great speed, even if it means coming back to it a little later. This compressed timeline makes certain patients recurring characters.

Robby is a calm, experienced leader who acts as a center of gravity in a whirlwind of doctors, nurses, students, social workers, EMTs, administrators and patients. “The Pitt” is extremely effective.
