A restaurant in Allas-les-Mines (Dordogne) is at the heart of a legal case. And if this restaurant is well known to local residents, but also to many viewers, it is not for its good cuisine, but because it appeared on the M6 show Nightmare in the kitchenone March 2024.

Unpaid rent

The establishment Le Cygne de l'spérance sparked numerous reactions during the broadcast of the episode, which featured a couple, tenants of the restaurant, and their difficulties in managing the establishment. However, the reality behind the cameras is darker, Périgord reports here.

The owners of the premises, retirees who receive 1,500 euros in pensions per month together, have taken legal action against the tenants. The latter are accused of not having paid the rent since February 2023, when they moved in. The dispute was brought before the court in April 2024, which ordered the termination of the lease and the eviction of the restaurateurs.

“We are completely helpless”

They contested this decision and appealed. They notably claimed that promised work had not been carried out, but the courts therefore ruled them wrong. In November 2024, the () Court of Appeal ruled definitively in favor of the owners. The tenant couple was ordered to repay more than 60,000 euros in unpaid rent and to vacate the premises.

Despite the requests of our colleagues, the restaurateurs are not expressed and their establishment seems abandoned. However, the tenants' cars are still present. “We are completely helpless, we will soon be on the street since we have nothing left,” said the owner.
